Thought I would try Chedd's for a quick sandwich at lunch time. They have a significant bottle neck in their system. Sandwich shops are usually fast. Not here. And once it got a little busy, I heard several people complaining about the wait. Food was ok. My sandwich was overcooked. (They don't really cook them but rather smash them in a heat press. Mine ended up with a mild burnt flavor.) Got this one checked off the old bucket list.

the most disgusting sandwich i've ever tasted. never eat at a place with gourmet in its name.

Nice specialty place. Think the prices are kinda high for a grilled cheese sandwich but that's what you get downtown.

4 stars for how great the texture was on their grilled bread. I was a little disappointed to only see one kind of cheese on their gourmet sandwiches since you would think that a grilled cheese place would be more heavy on the cheese. I went with a "build your own" and they do have a lengthy selection of different cheeses! Thumbs up for the amount of variety you could pick from. It was a little pricey for a sandwich, but all of the add ons add up.....

I got the Ain't Pizza sandwich. I can't say that I liked it. The cheese wasn't even melted inside :( Others in my group had yummier sandwiches though . Overall, I'd say it's alright. Not an overly special gem in the restaurant scene, but could be a good occasional place to go.

I make sure to hit up Chedd's at least a couple of times whenever I'm in Sioux Falls! It's impossible to choose just one sandwich, so I love that they let you do halves! The Tuscan Moon and the Coffee House Special are favorites! Service is hit or miss - sometimes there's no one in there and it still takes forever.

Today was our first time @ Chedd's. I'd seen some articles, noticed the storefront in DownTown Sioux Falls, and was, frankly, intrigued with the idea of a "gourmet grilled cheese" restaurant. Here's our reaction. Middle of the the afternoon (Sunday) and 3 or 4 tables were occupied. There's no signage indicating where to order, pay, get served, etc --- so we right away felt a bit awkward. We stood at the counter for three or four minutes before either of the two employees even bothered to glance at us. They were busy visiting with one another! We each ordered a sandwich and soup --- mine a bowl and my wife's a cup. Water to drink. Total damage was just north of $20 --- so the place ain't cheap. Nice ambiance though. We weren't in a hurry so the 10--12 minute wait for our food was OK. When my name was called I went up to the counter where the worker tried to HAND ME two sandwiches and two containers of soup. No tray! I'm not taking hot soup w/o a tray --- pretty tacky I thought, but let's give them a break. OK --- so we have soup but no SOUP spoons --- just plastic ware (and I HATE plastic ware!) ... but not even PLASTIC SOUP SPOONS. Now I'm irritated. Saving grace was the food. The tomato soup was maybe the best I've ever had. Anywhere. And both sandwiches were outstanding. So ambiance is a 7, pricing a 5, service (including crappy plastic ware and lousy single ply napkins) a 3, and food quality and taste a 9. Overall --- only a 6 on my 10 point scale. Too bad, because it COULD have been a 9! I'll give them one more spin in a month or so, but Sioux Falls has SO MANY great places to eat that they'll have to step up their game or they'll be crossed off the list. gll

This place was amazing! Loved the custom grilled cheeses. One of us had the yoga teacher, a healthy grilled cheese! So many options and their sandwiches are sooo good. a must stop in the charming city of Sioux falls.

36 different types of cheese and tons of other add ins for a delicious lunch. I had the Wild Garden with mushrooms and pesto jack and loved it. Check it out!

There was more than just grilled cheese...and it was delicious. My fiance and I both got the Yoga Teacher...we also got a cup of beer cheese soup to share for dipping...the soup would have been too rich by itself. Good service, food, and not a long wait. I love the location of this place. It's set in a old flagstone street type downtown area. The buildings seem to have a lot of history. We even went back to this area for dinner and to get a drink. But back to Chedd's, we would definitely recommend this place for something new and different.

This was a sight for sore eyes when we arrived downtown after 5 PM when many cafes were closed. We were in the mood for a panini but this place was even better than that would have been. We got one Farmer in the Dill and one custom sandwich. Both were extremely tasty and well-prepared. The service was great!

Best grilled cheese ever! And they come up with some of the most unique ideas that I would have never tried.

I worked at Chedds for ten months or so- I still go back to get a sandwich, and, although the wait can be a few minutes longer than average and it is on the spendy side at 6.75 per sandwich, that first bite will land you in heaven every time! They do have a make your own option, but I noticed that people tend to go overboard with that their first time- stick to the first three menu boards your first visit and tweak only if you need to. My favorite is the green sailor- sourdough, gorgonzola, tuna, a little mayo, and crunchy red onions, all fresh every day. They cut their own cheese, every day, and the meat is lunch meat type sliced, but it's still good quality! They are constantly evaluating the brands they use and their service and getting better all the time :-) This is a fantastic way to try something new, but you are best off not ordering the basic- although they'll make it for you in a heartbeat! The soup is also underrated- they have incredible tomato basil everyday and other delicious seconds such as wisconsin cheese and chicken tortilla! for dessert- awesome milkshakes too. Don't worry if you are allergic to gluten- you can bring in your own bread, no problem. A must try for locals and visitors alike, especially those with picky kids!

Looked on Yelp for a place downtown where I could grab a sandwich. The reviews on Chedd's looked great, and I'm a sucker for a good grilled cheese. I walked in around lunch time on a Thursday, and was surprised that it was pretty empty, but didn't let that deter me. The girl behind the counter was extremely helpful (and patient with me) as I asked a lot of questions. I finally settled on the Meatless Horse sandwich, because it sounded so good: Horseradish Havarti, Chipotle Cheddar, Banana Pepper, Green Pepper, Onion, Pickle with Honey Mustard on Pumpernickel bread. It was SO GOOD! I decided on half a sandwich with a cup of Tomato Basil soup, and I ate every bit of my sandwich and every drop of soup. Absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend Chedd's if you love grilled cheese sandwiches and you are in the charming downtown area of Sioux Falls. I can't wait to go back! The owner's definitely know what they are doing.

Establishment is clean, and sandwiches are great. A number of different sandwiches to select from, and customization's are acceptable. Would recommend for someone looking for a quick sit down meal.

The people working there were very nice and the big open restaurant was very welcoming. But... the food was just mediocre and overpriced. They have a bunch of cheese and add-on options, which is cool. However, the cheese wasn't fully melted on any of our sandwiches, the cheese to bread ratio was off (probably why the cheese didn't melt), and the price of the food was not reflected in the quality of the ingredients or the finished products. This place wasn't bad, but it for sure doesn't merit even 3 stars in my opinion. I would way rather take that same amount of time and money and go somewhre else, or go buy a bunch of fancy cheeses and make better sandwiches at home. We will for sure go somewhere else next time.

Great downtown location surrounded by cute boutiques! Perfect for an afternoon outing with your girlfriends! Decor was fun and welcoming! The food was nothing less than you would expect at grandmas house! Warm, fresh bread, with tons of creative and yummy flavors! Nothing less than soul food!!! Can't wait to try all the different combos:)

Driving through Sioux Falls, we thought we'd give this place a try. The ratings were decent, and it certainly sounded more interesting than anything else in the vicinity. I had the hot gobbler, and my son had the heartburn. Both were tasty, but I guess for nearly seven bucks per sandwich I was expecting a little more magic. The filling was ok, but the bread was incredibly lame. They had several kinds of bread (white, wheat, rye, etc.) but it wasn't fresh-baked bread. It wasn't even artisan bread. It was pretty much the same sliced-bread-in-a-plastic-bag that's readily available at the grocery store. And, for the aforementioned price, you get the sandwich. Only the sandwich. A pickle would be nice, just sayin'...... For $2 extra, you can get a beverage, plus either chips, a cookies or one of the side salads (macaroni, potato or coleslaw.) I got the potato salad. I thought it was rather bland and uninteresting. Mid-meal, I figured out WHY it was so bland and uninteresting -- it comes straight from the ginormous restaurant supply container. I watched the woman behind the counter bring the container out, open it, and scoop it from the container to the single-serving sized containers. NOT COOL. If you're going to charge gourmet prices, the quality of the food should match. It's not that hard to make coleslaw, macaroni salad or potato salad. And if they're not making their salads, I seriously doubt they're making the soup either. Would I go back? Probably not. The concept is good, but the complete lack of attention to detail is a deal-breaker for me. So why the rating of three, you ask? I'm giving the filling of the grilled cheese a four, but everything else about the meal a two.

Chedd's makes the best grilled cheese!! You can choose one of their creations or make your own and pick your cheese, bread, and extras such as veggies or meat. My favorite is the Hot Babe with Swiss and Monterey Jack on rye. It is a very casual place to eat, but is usually busy at lunch. Bathrooms are very clean and the staff is friendly and helpful.

We came here after having a bad experience at another restaurant and not only was the service better, but the food was so much tastier - I had the Yoga Teacher and it was soooo delicious! Not to mention, it was priced a little better than the other place too. I am getting hungry again just thinking about how good it was!

Didn't have time to stop during my last visit to Sioux Falls, glad we made it this time. First off...some of the best and friendliest service I've experienced in any restaurant, any where. You'll find it located in the downtown area surrounded by cute retail stores, coffee shops and other restaurant choices. A great place to stroll after dinner. If you love grilled cheese, this is the place for you. On the casual side and an unique choice...would love one of theseplaces in the Twin Cities. My Nasal Drain sandwich was outstanding with it's havarti, pastrami, saurkraut, horseradish on marble rye. My dinner mate's Coffee House (smoked gouda, turkey, pesto and bacon) was good, just not as good as my choice...in my humble opinion. They also have more traditional grilled cheese offerings along with a "make your own" option. Beer Cheese soup, was quite good as well. My only criticism would be...too many choices!

Good... I'm a big cheese fan so I was looking forward to a gooey cheesey sandwich but it wasn't all that cheesey. I wouldn't have the desire to go back unless I was trying the soup.

What can you possibly write about a place in South Dakota that makes gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches with real Wisconsin cheese? That it's DELICIOUS! uuhhh Chedd's, how I wish you were on the west coast! We were really lucky, honestly, to find Chedd's in Sioux Falls after driving for hours from Willow Grove MN (Laura Ingall's place, Little House on the Prairie, ring a bell?) through farmland. Sioux Falls has such a cute downtown area, with lots of stores, and Chedd's has a very charming store front. The decor inside is quirky and fun, I only wish they wouldn't keep it so cold in the dining room BUT it was summer and a REALLY hot day outside, so I won't complain much. Anyway, it's a bit unusual because it looks like a sit-down restaurant, so that'll make you expect a waiter/waitress, but there really aren't; you order at the counter, and they bring out your food when it's ready or you can go pick it up if they get too busy. We were lucky that we didn't go at a time when it was super busy; I think my gf and I were the first ones in the store, around 10 or 11, before the lunch crowd. So the food, right? that was some gooooood grilled cheese. I ordered the California coast (ironic? I think so!) and my girlfriend ordered the Yoga teacher, and they were both DELICIOUS. We also had some of their delicious basil tomato soup. The ingredients were fresh, the cheese was top-notch, and the bread they use (rye and multigrain, at least) were perfect for the sandwiches. Any other pluses? Yeah, I lked that they kept a VERY clean bathroom and dining area. The prices were a little on the high side, but the food was worth every penny. If we're ever back in this neck of the woods, I would certainly eat here again.
